  • Hope I get to buy that ticket one day.

As someone living there, me too…

------ I agree that from the outside it does look like the entirety of America doesn’t care ------ but

We have had some large protests, there’s growing discontent and assuming there isn’t a crazy amount of fuckery (there may well be though but we’ll see) the GOP will lose their majority in Congress. It’s possible then that something more may be done.

The problem is most people are comfortable enough and would prefer not to get engaged in violence but we have had some large non violent protests.

The bigger problem is that all 3 branches of our federal government (judicial/legislative/executive) are controlled by one political party and those in power are subservient to Trump and the MAGA pieces of shit.

I’d call it a design flaw but it is also kind of what happens with all Republics and ours was built this way on purpose. One could argue if all 3 branches of the government agree on something it’s probably worth doing. The question then becomes, what are they agreeing on and is it actually good for the majority of us or are we doing terrible things in the name of the state?

Idk I mean I’m sure I could, and people have, write a small dissertation here but I’ll stop now. Just … it’s fucked up for us Americans here in USA too and a lot of us hate it.

  • Tldr - nuclear power is awesome and USA electric grid is fucked and so are we if someone wants to attack it.

Nuclear power plants are actually awesome though, they’re one of the most efficient and safest forms of electricity generation especially when built and managed properly.

We’ve learned a lot since five mile island.

I think we should be pushing for more nuclear as a way to expand the power grid capacity and reliability. Of course other renewable energy systems as well, like wind and (especially) solar should be proceeding to be built up too while we decrease reliance on coal/oil/natural gas for electricity production.

It’s wild how backwards the Trump admin is on all of that. It’s also getting to the point where even non subsidized it just makes more sense to use wind or solar because it’s as cheap or cheaper than traditional fossil fuels now.

Personally, I’m of the opinion that if we can spend gobs of money killing children halfway around the world we have the money to fix our infrastructure at home. Like, regardless of what I said above, our electrical grid is so vulnerable to even amateur hour attacks never mind a sophisticated state actor like China or Iran. You could blow up idk … 20 or less substations and probably knock most of our grid out for weeks and that’s if you’re not using the backdoor software that was installed coupled with poor network security to just remotely fuck our shit up.

We’ll learn a real hard lesson about all that sooner or later at this rate. You can’t just keep destroying the soft power and goodwill your nation has built up over 100 years and piss off a bunch of powerful countries and expect there to not be consequences.

I feel like maybe I need to read more about the whole “stop killing games” thing. It’s awesome and fine if they expect at some point the game will be able to be played through a free multiplayer tool that enables someone to host and pay for private games.

It’s quite another if they think companies should have to shell money out of pocket indefinitely to run infrastructure for multiplayer games after x years of release and/or once player base passes a certain threshold number.

I’m admitting my ignorance here but I do think it’s fair to at least question both sides some

  • Just seconding that mr show is amazing. Honestly every episode always has at least one great sketch and the way they run into each other is very fever dreamesque (in a good way). Like there usually isn’t a clean cut between one sketch to another, they kind of just flow but the things linking them are usually odd - like it’ll be at the end of a sketch and zoom in on a tv in the background and that leads to the next sketch. Variations of that sort of thing.

Rockos modern life was such a banger show too. I’m an almost 40 year old guy and I still occasionally watch episodes of Rocko or a courage the cowardly dog when I need that nostalgia hit.

  • Yeah short of the insulation blowing between the studs like you said with stabbing holes … The other option is just replacing the plaster and lath at some point and when you do blowing insulation then. That’s a huge remodel though.

There’s definitely pros and cons to older houses, I bet if it’s made of those materials it has a cool layout and flavor.

I live in a place that was built up through the late 80s through mid 90s so the houses have a lot of variety. Feels like once the 00s hit and especially the 2010s single family home neighborhoods all became the same house copy + pasted.
