People seem to be deluded into thinking the Democratic Party is a leftist or centrist organization. It is a rightwing corporate party riddled with racist, bigoted members. Look no further than the current leadership’s anti-Mumdani, islamophobic rhetoric as proof they will throw anyone under the bus.

Short term, my next phone will have Harmony NextOS installed. I’d rather give my data to China than the US and 5-Eyes.

My fear is they will decide, at some point, to toss the GPL in the toilet because of “national security.”

While I’m glad to see M$ Office being replaced with LibreOffice, I hope the governments and companies doing so, also channel funds into development.
This will date me, but I first developed a hatred for Windoze when they used their monopoly power and political payoffs to illegally crush Netscape. I switched to Linux in 2003 and never looked back.

It’s not complete until there is a cat napping on the keyboard.

Proton had a Black Friday sale and that’s the reason it prevailed over Mulvad. Every penny matters when you’re a pensioner.

Hey people, let’s develop a new way to profit from stealing from Linux.
Sounds like those people who like GNOME but dislike systemd have a choice to make. Most GNOME end users, like me, have no idea what the function of systemd actually is or why we should be concerned, and I’ve been using GNU-Linux for over 20 years. I’m glad there are people much more computer literate than me viewing it as a problem and searching for solutions.

I’m still waiting on a Chuck Schumer/Hakeem Jeffries episode.

During my DeGoogling, dumping YouTube was easy, and was made easier when they started permanently banning leftist feeds like Party Girls. The struggle for me was Google Maps. Lots of substitutes, and I do use CoMaps, but none are quite as slick as the Google version…yet.

M$ is switching to defense and surveillance software. Once they failed to force their crap OS into the phone market, they knew their monopoly days were numbered on the PC. They are hoping to lock in devs on GitHub, but it looks like that might backfire with their overt push for CoPilot use.

In order to obtain and maintain a visa where I live, I am now actually required to maintain a mobile phone number. You are correct, I could live without a mobile phone, but I’d really miss the GPS.

I’m quite sure HarmonyOS won’t even be available in the US, and probably banned being it’s Huawei. Since I don’t live there, I don’t care. Asia will be using Harmony with 6G, while the west trundles along with ever more restrictive OSes, 5G, and an ever aging internet infrastructure.

I used DuckDuckGo until they added AI slop. I now use Floorp, a Mozilla fork based in Japan, and Tor Browser for links. I try to go outside the US for software as much as possible.

At this point, I’m just hoping to grab a HarmonyOS phone soon. I’d rather have China hoovering up my data than the US, 5 &14-Eyes, and fascist US tech corporation. Terrible compromise, but I don’t see an inexpensive Linux phone on the horizon any time soon.

Then what would be the point of using an atomic version?

Call me a Luddite, but I want to retain control over my updates and upgrades. I fear the day that Fedora becomes all atomic, all the time, which I can’t help but think is in the cards
