This is really catchy and upbeat :)

Are you also upset when they do a donation drive and have a pre-article header literally asking for money?
I have a collection of over 80k ebooks. I got most of them in huge download packs decades ago, and removed duplicates. it’s a surprisingly small folder.
I did the math on it long ago and it would take more than 200 years, reading an average of one full book a day, every day, to get through them all.
So I’m happy just knowing that if I get through some of them, it’s better than none of them. Time is limited, make the most of it by doing what sparks joy, and not worrying about what you didn’t get to.
What I don’t get is how anyone can sleep with anything other than blackout curtains. Even the ambient light from street lights and stuff is too bright for me.
I mean I know people do it, I just don’t understand how.
Keep in mind that all of these could be more or less stopped if there was any real desire to do so.
But there isn’t.
I’m almost 40 and still get carded a lot…
Not at bars. They don’t care and haven’t since I was 18. But my chosen place to buy beer has a 100% carding policy regardless of age, so it doesn’t even feel nice. :( I just have my card ready before I get there so they are just like “ooh your totally on top of it!” That feels alright.
About a week ago I got carded for a video game rated M. First time that’s ever happened in my entire life, no joke… I’m still salty about that.
Honestly I wouldn’t even call doctor who science fantasy. It’s just pure fantasy set around space travel and aliens. There’s absolutely nothing science about it, and they really don’t even try to make it seem that way. Anything that should have some sort of science explanation is just hand waved away, and thus internally inconsistent. The dr who universe is basically full of magic. Magic potions, magic wands, magic enemies, magic travel boxes, magic immortality, etc.
I think the sonic screwdriver is about as close as they have ever come to trying to explain any of it, and they basically only did that to point out the (rather absurd, story-necessary) limitations of the thing. One still has no actual idea what it can do or how it can work, just what it usually does and what it can’t do (sometimes and/or probably).
I find this wholly unsurprising.
All ai projects should be forced to show the entirety of their training data. I don’t give a flying fuck if they want to call it proprietary, they don’t own most of the data in the first place. Even if they bought it, it doesn’t belong to them, just like we don’t own digital movies we buy.
And if even a single piece of that training data doesn’t have proper licensing for that specific use for that specific model, or they are ever found to have withheld any of the data, the model as a whole should be immediately scrapped, along with everything even tangentially derived from it, and the company should be fined fully double whatever amount of money that model generated or one years revenue for the company as a whole, whichever is more (no I don’t care if this leads to bankruptcy, should have thought about that before you stole data), and like use if for affordable housing programs or public schools or something, whatever.
They can try again with clean data, also subject to review. One time. Second time they do the same shady shit, permanently banned from the entire sector.
But regardless, we need to stop rewarding them for this behavior. And we need the consequences to actually hurt or we can expect it to get worse, not better.
Considering the super shady practices involved with plasma “donation”, and the fact that it’s used to make very expensive cancer drugs, take your text and good vibes. That’s literally the better outcome.
Most of the world won’t even buy US plasma because of the really lax collection regulations and super sus conditions of most of the plasma centers (basically the fact that it’s paid and on such short turnaround causes a lot of people to game the system, it’s dangerous, and potentially unsanitary/risky.)
And here I was using windows in a VM to run rstudio 😪
Times have changed for sure. (Tho I haven’t used rstudio for many years and it may still be unsupported)
I was nearly always grounded from all electronics from 6-13 (autdhd, and authoritarian parents, bad mix), and had a bedroom with no exterior windows. My window went to a modified 3-season porch thing, in 2 of the 3 places (the third was an apartment for like 6mths, I barely remember it), and that’s where my mom slept, so… really quiet dead silence, mostly, else I was in trouble. Again. Or whatever garbage my mom had on tv, muffled through the wall.
Now I have tinnitus, so silence is really loud. I have aquariums tho and the hum and bubble of the air pump helps a lot (plus really loud circulation fans).
Surprisingly unhelpful, thanks! :)
That’s why I don’t swap for fedora. That’s the kind of help you tend to get unless you know someone who knows the distro, so I guess thanks for exemplifying :)
I haven’t tried those, but I did hop a bit on a bad hard drive. mint was too much (also o just hate it, tbh). Antixlinux was too much and that’s meant to run off a flash drive so the drive was failing, and now it isn’t (new 15 year old drive!!!) and Ubuntu is still a bit too much. But it runs a web browser which is all I need for a bedroom media device. I’d like more, but it’s enough.
But since then I’m seeking a different end goal. I was looking to optimize that old pos, but now if it just runs a browser and runs Plex web, I’m happy because it’s so old I can’t expect it to download for me… it can do, but not well and I have other machines for that. I tried to use it as a download device but lol, nope, can’t handle that many p2p connections on 4g ram.
But I’ll try those on flash drives and see what they can do for me! Thanks for the recommend!
I’m probably going to get downvoted for this but I’m a Linux noob overall…. Windows has historically been what I’ve used. Or Ubuntu. I did distrohop to antixLinux and other really super small distros, but they didn’t fix my problems and I ended up back on relatively bloaty Ubuntu for further testing and sadly it solved bout a third of my problems (the hardware is ancient enterprise shit with a whopping 4gb ram and 16 usb ports)
I’ve been looking for a Debian based system to replace Ubuntu because I’m a noob and Debian-based is super different from the fedora.
I’m sure fedora is great! Tons of people love it! But for a noob is can be really daunting. Especially when most Linux instructions come in three flavors “Ubuntu/debian” and 2 other things. Who knows which two. You, the advanced Linux user, probably know which two but your noob doesn’t. And doesn’t understand the difference.
I’m not a total noob but I prefer Debian because I know a person who gets Debian and can help me. If I knew a fedora user that was actually willing to help me, I’d use that, but I’ve never met one so I’ll stick with what I know.
Make a scramble! It takes lots of ingredients, plus egg, but the egg is kinda on the side and largely irrelevant.
It’s all the ingredients that make the scramble worth it. Like life. It wouldn’t be great if everyone were… wait… no…
Lots of flavors make the dish good. Yep that works.
So I’m faceblind, but really good with voices.
And she might be in other stuff, but I’ve not found it. I did find Lori petty in an episode of Star Trek, can’t even see her face for most of it.
Maybe because I’m not really into the “might as well be porn” genre of stuff (watched xena, Hercules, beast master, andromeda, and cleopatra 2525 as late night shit when I was a pre-teen, but I’m asexual and not into horny and never have been so I was into the storyline bad as it was), and thus unlikely to encounter her.
Of course, I have taste ;)
Plus lost in space (old and new), Star Trek, red dwarf, quantum leap, Babylon 5, sliders, Lexx, millennium, neverwhere…
I have 30tb of stuff on my Plex, mostly sci-fi/fantasy. And I’ve watched the majority of it because I have no life :)
The stuff on my Plex that doesn’t fit my genres wasn’t downloaded for me. But there isn’t much of that overall, maybe 500gb.
Sci-fi/fantasy is basically all I watch :)
Not the really old stuff; 90s-today mostly. That one just slipped through my memory cracks for a long long time, and my memories were far fonder than it deserved.
Bahahaha I got a friend to watch the first few episodes of that not too long ago, specifically because of the song. I hadn’t seen it since it was on late night tv.
It’s so much worse than I remember, like they were trying to shoot a porn but forgot the actual sex part.
They don’t come around anymore, but I used to say that I was disfellowshipped/excommunicated, whichever was fitting for whatever religion they were selling. If they ask why, which they basically never do, just say “I’d really rather not talk about it, if you don’t mind…”
They don’t actually want to waste time talking to people who were kicked out of the church for “bad behavior”, and in many cases aren’t even allowed to, so they blacklist your address.
No soliciting signs typically do the job, too, though.
