I guess games like Monkey Island (1 to 3, and Return, the 3D ones would be harder) could work using the touch screen or touchpad working as a mouse

4K max settings with RT max, and without frame generation, only achieved 30s FPS in the game

So basically 720p doesn’t perform much better than 4k, meaning it’s a horrible CPU bottleneck

In theory I guess. But you’d need a ton of funding just to get the server power for that, and there’s no guarantee that users will switch over to your service. And if Bluesky starts turning bad then they could start blocking your instance. Also the users are much more valuable than the data. There’s lots of ways this could fail to pan out. The Fediverse is much more flexible to new instances joining.

The network effect makes this extremely difficult, even with the source code, it’s basically starting from scratch again.

Well yeah some of the people, but I think the majority (or at least a large portion of them) will want a similar alternative to switch to, along with an entirely new generation of people

IDK, people will probably eventually leave Reddit, as they left Digg and Myspace and many others. Where would they go aside from the Fediverse? Almost all new alternatives being built are using the Fediverse, and it’s the only way to get more than 1000 users currently.

It might not be Lemmy, it might even be a platform that doesn’t exist yet, but they’ll be here in the Fediverse with us.

Most platforms die or never catch on at all, but the Fediverse allows the platforms to rotate in and out without losing the users or content.

yea dependencies seem like a real issue here, I don’t think Linux supports side-by-side versions like Windows does, Windows will just install every version of DirectX and libraries like that

Heavy modding of older games PC can be a pain in the ass.

Sometimes the older games are the easy ones to mod, and the new games make it intentionally difficult. Doom, Duke Nukem 3D, Quake, Deus Ex are all mod-friendly.

It can also depend on how much work the mod developer puts into making it easy.
