I love that it’s also got build instructions for Windows and macOS

Just my 2c while taking a shit, I think if the bot just printed the direct name of the news source (“Sky News Australia”, “CNN”, " The Guardian") and additionally said “This is the automatically detected source of this news. Please consider replying to this comment with a better source if you think one exists”
It makes it clear there’s zero bias and encourages conversation with other users here. It also is a reminder in case you might be skimming past and miss the domain it’s from, and you personally can judge “Oh, that’s what I think is a reputable source”, “Oh, it’s those wankers, this is garbage” or “I haven’t heard of that source before, I’ll be skeptical” as some examples
To add to this, I use an old iPad as a third monitor at work for Teams mostly. It’s 1024x768 which seems to be the minimum supported resolution for Teams (except for some applets) and I don’t need a good quality picture for Teams.
Unfortunately the app I’ve been using (TwomonUSB) seems to be no longer available for Windows download (CDN down), but this doesn’t affect me personally as I still have the setup anyway.
Seconding Startech - I bought a DP to DVI-D adapter for my MacBook Pro and while it worked flawlessly with my PC, macOS was only showing me 1280x800 resolution instead of the monitor’s full 2560x1600 resolution. I found that under Windows on Bootcamp it fully worked on the same hardware so it was clearly a macOS thing.
Emailed their support about it and within a day, got a guy who immediately gave me very technical and specific advice and suggestions, clearly very experienced. We weren’t able to solve it (chalked it up to a weird macOS limitation and work gave me a different adapter that worked) but he was still incredibly helpful, and I’ll have confidence in buying from them in the future that their support should be excellent.
How about this?
Captain Basculin: An Unconventional Leadership
Early Life and Ascension
Captain Basculin, an enigmatic figure whose rise to power is marked by unconventional policies and bizarre regulations, unexpectedly succeeded Vladimir Putin as the President of Russia. Despite the sudden and unexplained nature of his ascension, Basculin quickly established a reputation for his peculiar approach to governance.
Policies and Governance
Ceasefire and Peace Efforts
Basculin’s initial policy focus was on establishing a ceasefire with Ukraine. His goal was to minimize conflict and loss of life, reflecting his broader inclination towards peace rather than warfare. This pragmatic approach was coupled with a unique personal ambition to enrich his Wikipedia page with a plethora of unusual facts.
Legislation on Physics and Gambling
In a series of unprecedented legislative actions, Basculin enacted and then repealed laws regulating the fundamental principles of physics, creating a temporary period where physical laws were suspended. He also introduced highly irregular gambling regulations, permitting gambling exclusively between 03:00 and 07:00, and banning it during all other hours.
Vice Presidential Appointment and Taxation
Under Basculin’s administration, the Vice Presidential position was redefined with a policy inspired by Mann Co’s CEO selection process: the position would be awarded to the victor of a one-on-one unarmed combat match against the incumbent Vice President. In an unconventional move to address tax evasion, Basculin redefined it as a taxable income source, provided evaders disclosed their methods to assist in future legal reforms.
Piracy and Open Source Software
Building on Putin’s legacy of legalizing piracy, Basculin took a step further by openly funding open source piracy software. Developers involved in these activities were granted full-time residency and legal protection, creating a controversial yet distinctive facet of his governance.
Record-Breaking Wars
Basculin initiated a novel diplomatic strategy involving rapid conflict resolution. He brokered agreements with other nations to declare and end wars in record times, repeatedly breaking records for the shortest wars and fastest peace treaties. This approach extended to multiple countries, aimed at continually lowering these records.
Micronations and Antarctica
In a bold geopolitical maneuver, Basculin recognized all micronations worldwide except for those located around Antarctica. He also declared Antarctica as the territory of polar bears, dismissing all human territorial claims on the continent as invalid.
Legacy and Impact
Captain Basculin’s tenure was marked by a series of surreal and unconventional policies that have made a significant impact on international governance norms. His approach has both intrigued and bewildered observers, cementing his legacy as one of the most eccentric leaders in modern history.
?!?! Isn’t Sky News a Murdoch run news org? I know the aus one is very right leaning
Decided to bring out my Windows laptop, down votes to the right.
Don’t know if you’ll see a lot of “no” replies, because I imagine if you’re not happy with your username, you would’ve already done something by now like a new account.
I chose my username when I was a teenager and just kept with it since. The original meaning was that I’m a nerd, with both good and bad traits. It was also chosen with aspirations of being a YouTuber in mind and having something unique.
That being said, as I’ve matured I like to think that while I am a computer nerd, there’s more to me than that single trait, so it may change in the future.
Well this was a good way to have me actually watch the video instead of skip over the link
Rendered for me fine on Jerboa
I found the same and I daily drove Windows 8.1 with OpenShell to the very end of support.
This isn’t the first time Microsoft has done this, I remember this being a huge gripe for me with Windows 8/8.1
Software shutdown button presser chiming in.
There’s two reasons I tend to use the software button. I know for a fact that clicking “Shut Down” will actually shut down the computer. If I press the hardware button, the computer usually is configured by default to sleep. Yes, I could change this default behaviour on all the devices I use, but then there’s the second reason:
From a psychological perspective, I tend to associate the hardware button as a “only use if system is locked up” button.
I feel it’s worth mentioning the application of them also factors into their longevity.
Good quality SD card holding some documents and random files? Yeah probably 10+ years. Good quality SD card being used in a dashcam, constant writes? I’m replacing my good SD card after about ~2 years of service because its showing signs of failure.

Let’s improve your experience
Sit back, relax, we’re taking the wheel here to once again shove our subscription products down your esophagus. Would you be so inclined as to now use New Outlook, OneDrive, Microsoft Office, Telemetry (just kidding, we make it mandatory and give you the illusion of choice), Edge and our sponsors Candy Crush? We thought you would, so we’ve set these as your default apps. For instance, we have decided for you that Edge was what you actually needed instead of LibreWolf, which cane from an unknown source.
Thanks again, we will come again in next month’s update!
Think you’re preaching to the choir on that one
Kind of, its based on the latest LTS of Ubuntu if memory serves me right
I try to avoid Ubuntu for a lot of the common reasons seen here, so a Debian based Mint suits me well
I taste the rainbow myself. Here are my PCs and their OS’s:
My study is extremely Windows focused (expects use of Microsoft Project, everything submitted in .docx, etc.) and while it isn’t impossible to do it without Windows, I also don’t want to impede academic progress with macOS or Linux.
However, I have my Latitude which I’ve been using the most recently for all other study not requiring Windows, and my iMac I got from ewaste for doing anything needing macOS like jail breaking and syncing music to my iPhone 4s
I was thinking this, because that’s what Facepunch did when they stopped Linux support. If you had played Rust at all on Linux, regardless of hours, you were eligible for a refund.
