  • Are you assuming that AI in this case is some form of generative AI? I would not ask chatgpt if a mushroom is poisonous. But I would consider using a convolutional neural net based plant identification software. At that point you are depending on the quality of the training data set for the CNN and the rigor put into validating the trained model, which is at least somewhat comparable to depending on a plant identification book to be sufficiently accurate/thorough, vs depending on the accuracy of a story that genAI makes up based on reddit threads, which is a much less advisable venture

  • Radiation does not by definition make things it impacts radioactive, and most of the lingering effects that we associate with radiation have to do with radioactive particles that are left behind by the atmosphere. Since there is no particulate matter traveling between the sun and Mars (photons not withstanding), the surface of Mars would not be expected to acquire radioactive properties from an acute solar radiation event like this one. However, an entity on the surface of Mars would be exposed to radiation from the Sun, much more so than an entity on/near earth and it’s magnetosphere (Mars’ thin atmosphere and distance from the sun probably helps reduce that disparity relative to something in say low earth orbit, but I don’t think it fully equalizes or shifts the scales). I am not an astrophysicist, so there’s at least a 20% chance I got part of that wrong.

  • That’s a pretty scary thought right? Like I’m not saying you are advocating this view, but there’s sort of an undertone there of “don’t withhold your body from us or well take it by force”. Again, you could just be making an objective prediction, and I don’t want to imply otherwise, but if someone thinks that a spike in rape cases is an appropriate consequence to this movement (and you would think there would have to be for your prediction to come true), I hope that person/persons can have a good wank followed by some deep self-reflection on their views towards women

  • Blower is specifically referring to coolers that are designed to blow air through the GPU heats ink and then out the back of the case. In contrast, open air coolers use (typically more numerous and larger fans) to force air at the GPU heats ink but without much concern for where it goes after that, so the air ends up partially blown out the back of the case, and partially recirculate back into the rest of the case where the case fans are hopefully promoting enough exchange that ambient temps remain sufficiently low. The recirculation is less than ideal, but is offset by the larger fans and heatsinks for a typically quieter and cooler solution. The fans can be larger because they are blowing on the larger side/cross section of the heat sink. Pass through are a somewhat newer variant of open air coolers common on newer Nvidia cards that push or pull air through a heat sink that is not blocked on one side of a pc so air flows though the heat sink with less back pressure for more efficient dissipation at the expense of a more compact PCB to put all the GPU components on
