Edit to gibberish, then delete. Sure they have the history, but it’s harder to walk back edits at scale than it is mass deletion when cleaning data.
The most maddening behavior with alt tab. Let’s say I have 4 windows open on a single desktop split on a single monitor. [A|B] and [C|D]. C and D become best buddies, if I alt tab from A to D to reference something, A loses focus and I get both C and D visible. It becomes impossible to look at A and D together. Had no issues with sway/Wayland/nvidia. Nor with xfce but trying to let x be dead. Don’t have the issue with gnome/Wayland on Intel chips.
Non deterministic alt tabbing with arbitrary “buddy windows” is the most frustrating desktop experience imaginable. It’s less bad without nvidia in the mix but still seen it happen with Intel chips as well. Moved back to sway for tiling goodness and my sanity is restored.
Gnome + Wayland + NVIDIA drivers = Not a good time.
Gnome was fine, gnome today is unusable.

24.04 will be my last ubuntu lts. 26 doubling down on snap for system level packages, yea no that’s enough of that. I too was a gentoo lunatic in the early 2000s and will likely head back in that direction.

This is nothing new it’s just faster. The very same lack of guardrails would allow a new, inexperienced employee, or a disgruntled employee, do the very same damage. AI just speed runs everything. If your AI can nuke prod accidentally, you failed to have the appropriate guardrails in place plain and simple. It is the same failure as before. Every time this happens, it is someone operating wildly out of their depth and why product people can’t just vibe. Now more than ever, experienced engineers are essential.

And leave your phone and anything else that emits any kind of radio signal at home. Headphones, smart watch, bus pass with nfc, stuff like that.
Also keep your clothing plain and generic. They’re classifying with stickers and logos too.

Producing software is not free. Serious projects need to be able to commercialize, it can’t always be for passion and vibes. But it can be done tastefully, there is a difference between shilling slop and monetizing a serious project.
Which is literally why lemmy is the only possible replacement. It’s the only path for users to choose not an evil corporation. Hypothetically reddit could operate an instance, and we could all give them the finger and block/defederate from them. We have to foster the growth of niche hobby, community, and activity boards though. It can’t all be left leaning politics and meme shit posting. We need to encourage those who share expertise to come contribute. That lemmy is the defacto aggregate forum. It is the only form factor corporate ownership can’t swallow up.
