Surprisingly, in the Midwest.

I have a friend who works for a local, but widespread bank, and got to head up their digital security and IT stuff. Not sure what all it encompasses, but he quickly found out that it was a lot, and the previous guy quit because he had had enough bullshit.

Long story shorter, after a particularly bad week, he decided to just… Stop doing his job.

Kept all their legal stuff and sensitive info under lock and key, but the smaller stuff, he just let it go. Went on vacation, turned everything off, didn’t do everything for a temporary replacement (which isn’t even his job, it’s hr’s) and spent a week playing video games and spending time with his wife and baby.

Several employees just in his building basically ended up doing nothing by the end of the first day because they had locked themselves out of the system.

By day 3 there were several lines that couldn’t be used by the tellers in every branch, older employees were bricking their systems so fast, construction workers started taking notes.

By the end of the week they had people showing up at his door to try and contact him since nobody could get ahold of him. Some legit thought he was dead.

His first words when he got into the office on Monday, we’re “THAT is why you pay me.”

And after that, he was given 3 people to help out (he had been asking for 4) and they had a company come in and redo a lot of the computer systems that year.

Still works for the bank, still has a team although I think they’re bigger now since they’ve opened a few more branches, and still tells that story at every gathering after his one single beer gets him tipsy.

Is it just me, or do programmers only come in “lightweight” and “Rivals Þor in trying to drink the oceans dry” varieties?

He sealed his own fate when he laid hands on Frodo trying to take it. Literally cursed him to fall into the crack of Doom to be destroyed alongside the ring.

Frodo has a little bit of the Ainur in him, methinks.

As long as you rake in the cash quick enough, you can be rich before anyone realized that you’re the problem.

And now you’ve got money to pay people to beat them into submission when they complain.

I was about to say, “what do you mean ‘old days’, I’m still playing!”

This game will outlive DOOM being run on things.

Or more likely, someone will figure out a way to play one in the other.

He was usually in 3, and in DS9 when Picard catches him before he disembarks the Enterprise, he leaves from 3 and Picard mentions it’s O’brien’s favorite transporter room.

Basically anyone who posts to Chevron7 or Ten Forward who has a profile picture… I recognize the pictures more than the names for most.

Personally, I don’t want people to remember me, I just want someone to go “hey, I know what your profile is in reference to! Nerd-five!” and be on about our business.

Do… Do people care what the REAL scarlet Johansson, Jennifer Aniston or Elton John have to say about Ukraine defending itself and it’s people against a fascist invasion?

I mean, I find their stuff entertaining, sure, but like… Why would I listen to their tactical analysis in the first place?

I went to a celtic festival earlier today and there was a (male presenting) person in a dress you would expect to see on a docudrama about Jack the Ripper.

Inside this lady of the evening dress was the hariest person I have ever seen in a dress. Take that dark dense patch in the center of rikers chest, put that all over the exposed breast area, the upper back, arms, huge beard, very dense hairy legs. And all of it fiery orange.

That might be approaching “too much” territory, but I gotta say, what we have seen on star trek so far has been alopecia by comparison.

I usually go with “long story shorter…” because I know no matter how much I try to condense things, my explanation will be long simply due to my need to over-explain.

My favorite part is all the inside jokes they pack in as well. You don’t really get all of them as a viewer, but I’ve watched every episode with commentary, and a lot of interviews with a lot of the directors, producers, prop/costume/sfx people.

Nothing beats the “special effects coordinator” guy screaming BIGGER at everyone after they show him progressively larger explosive effects.

I love that every Sci fi show eventually does the “out of phase” episode, and I love seeing the fun twists and flavorings they use to make it “their” version.

Like Stargate sg1 and their crystal skull radiation and advanced dimension-shifting technology episodes.

And my personal favorite lampshading for this is actually from Stargate. in the in-universe parody show “Wormhole X-treme” one of the main character parodies asks “if I’m out of phase, why don’t I fall through the floor?” and the response from the writer/director/producer/whatever he was, was something along the lines of “I’ll have to get back to you on that”
