My reflection was that I wish national news programs included more international content rather than focusing on trivial stories with no broad impact they probably pick up from social media.

It always frustrates me when my relatives watch TV news that favors substantial coverage of inconsequential local stories in the U.S. over more significant events internationally.

At least if there were two upgradable RAM slots the end user would have the choice to add a second 8GB card at a later point (or even just one slot for compactness), but that of course isn’t the way Apple does things.

A $600 laptop with only 8GB of RAM was never an amazing deal by normal laptop standards.

Stopping Russia from conducting ethnic cleansing in Ukraine preserves human life.

Starting a war isn’t good, but now that Russia has started it, it’s important for Ukraine to continue receiving support to regain its territory and assert its territorial integrity, or Russia will inevitably start another war to take more. Allowing Russia to keep any of Ukraine’s territory is a tacit acceptance of its geopolitical tactics.

If anything, that’s just an indicator of Google’s market dominance. Microsoft’s actions are ethically dubious, but more countries need to adopt legislation in the style of the EU’s Digital Services Act to promote competition to prevent consumers from assuming that Google is the sole means of searching online.

The tentatively adopted curtailment strategy also includes additional fees that could be charged to all types of customers that use more water than allowed, starting with $4 per 1,000 gallons over their allocation and subsequently rising to $8 per 1,000 gallons over their baseline. Federal and state government users, however, would be exempt from these surcharges.

A $8 per 1,000 gallon fee is an ineffective deterrent; they need effective penalties that no one is exempt from.

I’m by no means a supporter of Microsoft, but most search engines don’t redirect users to a company’s website just by entering their name as the search query. It’s not ‘intercepting’ anything, just adding a search widget to the results page.

Replaced the audio-based article from NPR with a more in-depth one from Houston Public Media; both were released a week after most other articles, reflecting NPR’s added reporting. Ultimately, ICE used the arrest as an excuse to kidnap him and are ultimately responsible for his death.

CBS failing to correct lies such as “No one in ICE custody is denied access to proper medical care” and reprinting propaganda such as “This is the best healthcare that [sic] many aliens have received in their entire lives” is evidence of their slanted reporting that people shouldn’t be promoting.

Be the change you want to see; if you’re into FNAF, find or create a community for it, post regular FNAF news as it comes out, and I’m sure you’ll find at least a few people interested in it. With enough people, others might start contributing too.

Because once people accept age-gating for any and all websites, enforcement (i.e. age verification) becomes a much easier sell to the average person who doesn’t care about their privacy.

A game that amounts to a graphically enhanced N64 game shouldn’t cost $50.

Most of GameStop’s inventory has shifted to being gaming accessories, trading cards, and merch anyhow, so game sales are less important to them than they used to be.

Reposting Reddit content in bulk to Lemmy (versus individual users reposting their own guides or informational posts) does nothing to organically build communities here, instead leaving a bunch of empty posts that make their communities look dead. It’s a chicken and egg problem, of course, but simply copying Reddit content wholesale isn’t the answer.

Edit: Just want to clarify that I’m not doing any downvotes here, and see the logic in that having the best of the best Reddit content here could help convince some people to look at otherwise dead communities. The problem is that relying on such content encourages Lemmy users to be consumers of content rather than producers in their own right, and therefore think that maximizing opportunities for Lemmy users to contribute in their own right is for the best.

The overlay could be removed with an ad blocker, or they could switch to Desktop View, or they could switch to Old Reddit.

Even better, they could switch to the Threadiverse and not need to deal with a company progressively tightening the belt on user freedom for profit maximization.
