Was not expecting to see anyone else talk about Library Takeout.
I like a lot of obscure songs. Here’s one of my random faves: Swamp - Mid-Air Thief
Hence “bone-chilling”
Coworker found him on the sex offender registry for messages with some woman trying to arrange a sexual meetup with her daughter. Not even a statutory teenager situation, an actual child. Apparently he had some connections with law enforcement which kept him out of jail.
Everyone already hated him for general creepiness and being terrible at his job, so there was a degree of vindication in confirming how horrible of a person he was. Still super fucked up.
Warmhinder does sound like an actual name though
Restaurants that switch away from tips frequently switch back. There was a big push about 10 years ago, and most have closed or switched back.
Customers, as a whole, just see menu prices go up and go someplace else; the customers who actually understand the trade-off are too few for that model to work most of the time. Additionally, the best staff jump ship to restaurants where they can maintain their income.
Fine dining is really the only place you can get away with it regularly. The employers didn’t really have a choice if they want to stay open. The system is what it is, every customer who doesn’t tip is giving themselves a discount at the expense of the staff which is a reasonable thing to be upset about. The only way to change the system is through regulatory legislation.
Latin has more rules, but they’re more utilitarian than fancy. Latin rules are there to make sure you understand exactly what is being said. French rules are there to make everything elegant and confusing, like high fashion.
I just have some high school Latin from long ago, but if you parse “fancy” as “ornamental at the expense of utility”, then I think it’s a fair description.
This is correct. Once you get to the top you can use the stem as a little handle too.
4, at minimum
I could be convinced that mermaids should have dark backs and light bellies
Can I be upset at all of them? The little mermaid should probably be Dutch Danish, and all the rest should be their canon ethnicities. White Disney princesses don’t bother me because most of those stories are European folktales, but that cuts both ways.
When I was very young, my dad told me we were going to Miami. I thought he said “my Ami”, which I assumed was a word for some kind of relative, like Auntie, Granny, etc.
Back pocket for me. Even at my most active I’ve never had it fall out. Just have to remember to take it out when you sit down.
There was a period of time in middle school where I was obsessed with Monty Python and the Holy Grail. Definitely not my favorite film anymore (not even my favorite Monty Python film), but since I don’t really rewatch things nowadays it maintains its record.
Unless you count the one of the Disney movies my baby sister watched 3 times a day every day for months.
Ah, the E.T. gambit
This sentiment is hyperbole, but still fueled my exit.
It’s rarely used phonetically the same as xylophone. Usually it makes the [ks] sound, it only ever makes the [z] sound at the beginning of words. X-ray is actually much more in line with the typical phonetic representation in English.
Technically yes, but it’s not the same.
That much is obvious, but probably not for the reason you think.
