  • I don’t know. I never was much into modded Skyrim. The last time I played Skyrim was around 2012. Enderal installs like any other Steam game and comes with its own launcher. I only played Enderal because it was recommended to me since I really liked Gothic II and story focused games. I now also highly recommend it. This mod is better than at least 90% of games released in the last 10 years.

  • Proton is like magic. I remember when gaming on Linux only worked for some rather old games. Now you can almost buy anything from Steam and expect it to work on Linux. What surprised me the most was that even Enderal, an excellent total conversion mod for Skyrim, just worked. The same goes for the newest Hitman. I expected that I have to do some tinkering, but no. You click play and that is it. I doubt that any of these games where ever tested on Linux by their developers. That they all work so well shows how good of a job the developers of Proton, DXVK, and Wine are doing.

  • What is your threat model? If you don’t want to give any data to these companies you simply can’t interact with them at all. Where do you draw the line? Once you have figured that out you can come up with a plan.

One thing you probably should always do is separating your business devices from your personal devices. Then create the accounts you need for your business and only use them with your work laptop or phone. If you want, you can invent a sockpuppet persona that acts as your social media manager. This should insulate your personal life from most tracking as long as you don’t use your work laptop for things unrelated to work. I wouldn’t fuss around too much with privacy preserving apps for a business accounts outside of ad-blocking and regularly cleaning up cookies.

I guess for “Flugzeug”, ‘device’ works better but I don’t think I have ever thought about it in that way. From my experience usage usually goes more like this: “Pack dein Zeug zusammen wir gehen weiter.” which I think best translates to ‘Stuff’ or ‘things’. Zeug is an interesting word though. It is also used for the harness of a draft animal (“sich ins Zeug legen”), it’s bridle (“Zaumzeug”), bed linen (“Bettzeug”), work tools (“Werkzeug”) , or as a word for nonsense (“red kein dummes Zeug”). I would say it started, as you said, as a word for device but became a slightly negative word for ‘Stuff’.

  • I am using Kinoite for quite a while now and not once did layering break anything. The only thing I notice is that the mesa drivers from rpmfusion occasionally go out of sync with the fedora repos and I have to wait a few days for an update. I think ublue would fix that but I am not bothered enough by that to make the switch. What where you trying to achieve that you managed to break Kinoite?
