3 days agoWith continued optimization everyone is eventually gonna host their own LLM locally. Then OpenAI will be irrelevant. You can already host some flagship level LLMs with tools on your humble gaming rig with the right settings.

Sometimes one string is used in multiple locations. The full word might fit in one location but not in another so you abbreviate it and the abbreviation appears in both locations.
What concrete examples are you referring to? Japanese is likely rarely abbreviated.

The decision to build the new Boise fab in question (to start production in 2027) was made in September 2022. ChatGPT was made available to the public in November 2022. The new fab is likely not a response to significantly increased demand at the time but an investment made in expectation of increased demand (GPT-4 could already be tested in 2020, maybe they foresaw the LLM hype). They make DRAM. Isn’t it likely that prices are going to drop once production starts at the new fab?
2·2 months agoAs far as I know, Ukraine is now taking more territory than it is losing. It is Ukraine that is now constantly creeping forward. Russia is losing occupied territory.
Micron has been building a new fab in Boise which is set to output RAM starting 2027, no?
Apparently another fab is planned already.
Infineon is also looking to expand production, if I understand correctly, though RAM may not be their main thing.
I’m certain a lot of bot farms by competitors are involved in spreading Valve hate. And this is happening to other companies, as well. Obviously, this is hard to prove so it’s just speculation, but if I were a competitor (and an asshole) I would certainly try to manipulate public opinion using the tools at my disposal. LLMs make this kind of stuff easy enough. And we know that many many bots lurk around everywhere.
Especially since Valve is a major promoter of Linux with Proton, I could see Microsoft not being too happy with them.

Can’t wait for the LLM bubble to pop and have RAM and SSDs become dirt cheap for at least a short time. I believe that other AI-related applications (machine learning, visual recognition, OCR etc. for robots/drones) are more practical and have good use cases but LLM companies themselves are certainly overvalued.

My internal walls are made of thick reinforced concrete, same as the other person who replied to you. I highly doubt a bullet would be able to penetrate them. I’d assume a brick wall would be weaker than my internal walls. People also don’t have guns lying around at home, usually. But even if that were the case, it is absolutely outlandish to assume somebody could shoot through into my apartment with their handgun.
I see. My bad. That is inconvenient indeed. My guess is that they want to promote paperless alternatives (commuter cards, digital commuter cards, credit cards where usable). More and more stations allow you to use your credit card as a commuter card, so you would neither need an IC card nor a paper ticket. They upgraded the gate where I lived in 2024. Give it a few years.

The current magnetic paper tickets are replaced with paper tickets with QR codes on them. Not digital QR codes on your phone. The article is misrepresenting that with the photo showing a QR code on a phone. That’s not what this is about.
You can pay your fare using an IC card that can be charged using cash or via your Japanese bank/credit card. You can also pay with your credit card directly, though I imagine not everywhere, as I’ve seen extra terminals installed for that.
Phone tickets (えきねっと) have also existed for some time. Only shinkansen and the likes, though.
This change has nothing to do with IC cards or existing phone ticket systems. Paper tickets become different paper tickets.
