I have honestly not seen anyone acting like they are “owed” these things by FOSS developers. We just want them.

Spiritual successor.

Really cool looking!

I think his games were a touch above mediocre, myself. He’s the mind behind many beloved series; that’s got to count for something. Fable, Black & White, Dungeon Keeper, and Theme Park are pretty legendary names.
Please don’t let your cat outdoors without supervision. It is devastating for both the lifespan of your cat and your local ecology.

I mean, I don’t doubt that some people are shallow enough that they hate it for only that reason, but I don’t believe most people hate it for that reason alone.
Personally I just found it an underwhelming final trailer. But I don’t like PvP games, so that’s not surprising that I’d be underwhelmed.

It’s an action RPG.

I’m moving and my friends can either come along or be left behind.
Edited to add, I didn’t expect Lemmy to feel so strongly about my friends. The fact of the matter is that I created my current discord community and friend group. I run the TTRPGs they all play twice a week. So they can come along to whatever I switch to, or stay on Discord and figure it out for themselves. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ but I’m leaving Discord either way.

Thanks for highlighting the differences.

Thanks for the warning.
It’s basically a different game from the original. The gameplay loop is similar sure, but it doesn’t even resemble the original.
Everything they said (lied) about being in the game at launch has now been in the game for a while, and they just keep going with new content. And always free.

Thank you for sharing, this looks like it has potential and its brand new. Love you FOSS nerds.

Looks similar to Docmost.

Canada next please.
I’m aware but I don’t think this was the issue Ulrich was speaking of. If they were, I don’t think it was well conveyed.
I honestly think the vast majority of people on Discord don’t know what IRC is, and therefore don’t have an opinion of it. However, I didn’t mean to suggest IRC as the best alternative anyway.
I understand that but even the text chat is a different experience than what Discourse offers. Even people who only used Discord for text chat and want a replacement for that would be better on IRC.
I don’t really see how someone can position Discourse as the number one Discord alternative. Surely most people looking to ditch Discord want live chat, audio/video calls, and screen sharing… Or am I just in the minority here?
For the record, I think Discourse looks awesome and even thinking about how I might use it for a project, but I do not see it as a Discord alternative.

I’m inclined to agree with it being underwhelming.
Wreckfest and its sequel, currently in early access, are the same Flatout devs.
