We’re social animals, we depend on others if we’re young, old, sick, or disabled. I don’t think it should be a legal requirement, but if people see you let your parents suffer, they probably won’t have a great opinion of you.

I sometimes have medium length nails (3-5 mm past the fingertip), though I tend to just grow my own out, and I do it entirely for myself. I have a bunch of different kinds of nail polish and stencils for making cool patterns and it satisfies my inner elementary school librarian urge to dress up for even very minor holidays.
People have come up to me and told me that my nails are too long for them to find attractive, which is a bizarre non sequitur imo. I don’t know why the assumption is that any self-decoration is intended as a sexual signal: my ideal nail-based interaction is that a little kid asks about them and I get to tell them about Arbor Day or national soup day or something.
Sometimes they make life more difficult, and then I either find workarounds (opening pull tabs with a spoon, for example) or cut them, depending on how much time I have and how much I like my current nails.
I get that they’re not for everyone, but I like them, so I wear them. It’s okay if others don’t like them, they don’t have to wear them.
If it’s just general media within media, that Ben folds five ass crack bandit song was fucking killer
Hey look, it’s the same woman!
It’s intentional
I also eat raw smoked tofu blocks sometimes, but try cutting it into strips and sautéing them if you really want to give it a shot. You can eat that with whatever you like your fries with. I tend to go for a sriracha mayo.
Before you cut it up, drain any water from it, and wrap it in a clean dish towel, then press it under a cutting board or something flat for like 20 seconds on each side. If you get extra firm smoked tofu, that should be all you really need to do, but you can also toss it in seasoned flour (or a seasoned 1:1 mixture of flour and corn starch) first
Salad bar and shipping at a forest fire? If they have reliable access to those, I’d be very surprised. He also probably won’t be able to digest meat after 25 years of a vegan diet, so he’d be putting everyone in danger if he made himself sick at the scene of a forest fire. It’s not like there’s much to forage in that situation, so he just has to choose between hunger and illness.
The court ruled that his moral veganism doesn’t count as a protected belief system (this is in Canada), so when he did sue, they ruled in favor of his employer. I’m not sure why breach of contract didn’t apply, but his right to vegan food would have been protected by the court had he been vegan due to religious beliefs (the example given is Jainism). That’s why the comparison is to a protected belief.
It’s not really possible to arrange his own meals, and they told him they would give him vegan food.
If a person were sent on a work trip where it was impossible to get outside food, and their boss told them they could get them appropriate food, then didn’t, I think they should complain. Especially if it means that they essentially went hungry for weeks while doing a really active job. That’s crappy of their job to do, and they shouldn’t stand for it.
Snacks in the canteen is a totally different deal and I agree that a complaint is not really appropriate, but it’s reasonable to ask if they can supply a broader range of foods.
For context, the story I read a similar comment under was about a decades long vegan forest firefighter who was unable to receive vegan meals through his employer (given that they’re very much “in the field” they can’t really bring their own). After complaining, he was suspended without pay by the employer and he tried to fight that, arguing that his vegan lifestyle was a creed.
That context changes things for me at least, maybe not for you.
Though to be fair, if I had the skills and inclination to do that, there’s not a chance I’d do it normally
Immigrants are over 15% of the population, of course they commit crimes. 8% of rapes are reported, wanna bet whether they’re more frequently reported when they’re committed by immigrants?
Well, Herr Sellner, perhaps your perspective is slanted. Somehow people still make their opinions heard.
As an immigrant in Germany, people who don’t support immigrants are not cowed by their government, don’t worry. They love to tell me about it. Maybe if you were an immigrant for a day, you would see things differently as well.
It blows my mind that they don’t pick mail up from peoples houses. I live in a city, so it could be different in more rural areas, but I my closest mailbox is almost a half kilometer away.
War is a racket.
“Borrowing trouble” is a great phrase :D
The Sri Lankan foreign ministry came to Ms Arunatilaka’s defence and said she had followed government-approved rates in paying the wages. “The allowance approved by the ministry as the salary of the employee has been paid to her,” a ministry statement said.
“The ministry is satisfied that the said salary was paid to the domestic assistant by the employer as mutually agreed.”
That’s not at all completely fucked up or anything.
It’s totally possible that I’m less likely to take dark pictures than I would be if I had a better camera, so I might not really be comparing low light pictures
My husband has a phone with a bump and I really don’t notice a difference. I don’t know what to tell you 🤷
That’s why it shouldn’t be a legal requirement. If people hear that your parents mistreated you and still think poorly of you, that’s a person you don’t want in your life.
