I was worried the remaster would take some of this away, but it looked just as good.

The PS2 version looks great after upping the internal res (not sure how much other stuff like filtering/other technicals has an effect). I haven’t compared it, but like most remasters I’m going to just say the data bloat is probably not worth potential fidelity improvements. That and I’d guess any design issues are still baked in, thus similar experience.

EDIT: In Okami’s case I don’t know if the data size is due to uncompressed files or just due to higher-res pre-rendered videos, but either seems wasteful to me. What is live-rendered and what is pre-rendered just seems arbitrary to me, I’d get if it weren’t viable on older hardware but you’d think a remaster could handle it mostly in-engine.

I want to use Raylib, but mentioning it here on the fediverse doesn’t get much of a response (I can’t see a raylib community from my instance). My choice of language probably doesn’t help, though.

My first issue is wanting vertex colors on 3D models and I am not getting this (this may be a problem with the bindings I’m using, naylib(nim-lang)). The second would be needing guidance for the 2D polygon text loader that I started.

Maybe I could make simple GUI applications with raygui, but I don’t currently really have many viable ideas on what I would want to make.

To OP: Another potential option is using Godot w/bindings. Design is pretty fast and flexible, then using signals is super easy.

I’ve tested some frameworks (specific to my language, so not really helpful to most), the one that I liked more said it was declarative user interface framework based on GTK though I would prefer a similar thing for Qt and there wasn’t an ability to automatically scale text size to better fill the available button size (I was testing an adventure-book reader and hoping to use unicode characters).

Frameworks for single page applications (or some other browser-based tech) might be ok for simple stuff. Similarly, I’ve liked the idea of TUI frameworks (yeah, because htop) but haven’t really tried that yet.

When that older DX game port was released, I think it took like 3 or 4 days for them to take it down. Probably even like a patch stomp tuesday situation when the interns hand off the script detections off to the lawyers.

It might take a bit longer if people stopped using sites like Youtube and Github, and tried not to include trademarked terms (or super-identifiable audiovisual content) anywhere.

The bigger issue IMO would be that not everyone has quality sleep, so they might not have a long uninterrupted time in REM to properly dream.

Personally even when I’m in the right state to experience dreams (the type that I do remember) they usually aren’t very vivid, for the above reason or possibly something else. I also have aphantasia so it may be related (or other brain/life stuff). Once I did have a colorful-yet-still(ish) dream related to then-recent photography.

Long enough to accept it. Lots of reasons that ultimately add up to being an inadequate person, but also no transportation/income in a semi-rural area (also health/personality issues) so I’m a shut-in and thus don’t ever meet people. That said, even in school/college it’s not like I ever really made strong connections with people, romantic or otherwise. Non-religious in USA (esp. given rural) certainly doesn’t (and more so didn’t) help with a dating pool either.

And even if none of those were issues, I’m just not that interesting. I suspect the people who might like to be around me are probably also in their house more-often-than-not, and not within any distance/likelihood of meeting.

Huh, I’m using technology as an escape from woodworking. Lack of space/tools and a few times when I tried to do something the wood was too seasoned (last thing I tried was whittling hoping to do it in my room anytime and not have dust as an issue, cheap folding knife probably didn’t help)

Well not fully true on the escape part, I just drop things really easy when I run into issues like that. Well that and I haven’t done anything noteworthy with technology or woodworking.

Though I posted 2 threads (OC, simple 3D models with vertex colors. banan) 2 weeks ago that didn’t do much (and they both had federation issues in different places, one went to lemmy.world and not other places and the other thread did the opposite) in Kbin communities that don’t have any new activity still. I thought about posting to artshare (on LW) to see if that’d be better but I also haven’t done anything new with it recently.

I meant newer than the context I stated (1983). And also ground floor stuff that doesn’t need internet (after install) and doesn’t need a purchase/sign-up. Available by default or not too obscure to get decent voices.

There might be some half-decent voices somewhere, but it really just doesn’t seem like it’s night-and-day for the ground floor stuff from what I’ve seen. Maybe some vocaloid stuff but even that seems like a chore to do the phonemes manually to get expected pronunciation.

Yeah, in my opinion this sounds worse than DECtalk from all the way back in 1983 (for instance, Perfect Paul). Or MacinTalk (see its usage in Whatever Happened to Robot Jones, particularly the original version).

The newer stuff often tries to sound less robotic but then if it doesn’t have the complexity to sound realistic it just sounds worse, harder to understand and yet also sounding uglier… warbly.

With some of the things you listed, probably hazing.

I’m guessing “welcome” might be better translated as an initiation, but hazing is more clear that it is humiliating/degrading and/or dangerous (and maybe even not much of a choice). (Edit)

It doesn’t seem to work for me either, then again I have tinkered a bit with Nim and never known when to use that (though not the first I’ve heard of :=) and thus I never have.

Does it look like a normal assignment? (like var test:string = "wow" or even just test = "wow")
If so, have you tried just replacing := with =?

though this is cached on Quora (I couldn’t find the full context) so I’d say this is not a required (or even probably a good) practice to do. I don’t consider myself a programmer and even still, defining types seems like an easy thing most of the time.

Also it may not even be strictly necessary? I think the compiler will at least sometimes infer types during normal assignment, not that you should rely on that. If I had to guess, possibly this operator was removed in 2.0 (or possibly regression).

I tried a cheap pair and my takeaway is that this technology needs a specific amount of contact pressure, and with no mechanism to assure this (do the “name brand” ones have something?) a poor fit means it doesn’t work at all and then if you fiddle with the position you can get something that basically turns your ear canal into a speaker (at least it doesn’t seem like it’s actually going direct, at least for most of the sound).

Also using a headphone amplifier, loudness normalization is an issue especially as certain content clips while some doesn’t. This one probably directly relates to cost.
