13·3 months agopolitical capital (or morale) is just as, if not more, important than bullets or money. And somehow, despite decades and decades of failures, the US empire fails to understand that

World News@lemmy.world•Iran is 'confident' it could counter a U.S. ground invasion, foreign minister saysEnglish
163·3 months agoArguably, WW2 is the last war the USA won, and they only won that one by swooping in at a time when the Nazis were already battered and at the edge of strategic defeat. The Korean war was a stalemate, and the second gulf war ended in a quagmire and a withdrawal. The USA is great at taking territory, terrible at holding it and doing counterinsurgency. They’ll win the invasion, but lose the war.

12·3 months agoIt makes sense that it was deliberate. Israel doesn’t want regime change, they want a failed state in Iran. And the rally-round-the-flag effect the bombing and martyrdom of 165 school girls, and the subsequent longer war it will cause, gives them just that

World News@lemmy.world•‘Our classrooms are empty because the graveyards are full’: Iran’s students on why they are protesting againEnglish
1211·4 months agoThe protests are good and justified, all power to the Iranian people. Iran deserves a second revolution, after the first one was taken over by the Mullahs for their own goals.
But it’s genuinely disheartening how readily nominally progressive spaces are jumping abord the manufactured consent for an imperialist military intervention by Israel and the US.
How, exactly, will bombing Iranian cities help their liberation? Or even if they succeed with deposing the Mullah regime, is anyone really expecting self determination by the Iranian people afterwards? We’re seen how the Shar’s son is pushed as the next US puppet government by US- and Israeli media (and their European allies).
The Iranian people, not just the current regime, are supportive of Palestine, and Israel and the US absolutely cannot accept that. Don’t cheer for imperialist intervention.

91·4 months agothe leftism leaving peoples body when talking about prison abolition
no, but honestly, violent revenge fantasies don’t help anyone, not the victims, and for sure not society. That goes for prison rape especially (as you correctly put it), but same goes for assault or other forms of punishment.
Keep violent people like him away from people they could hurt, sure. But never give up trying to reform them into compassionate members of society. And if punishment is really something needed to put one’s mind at ease: The worst thing that could happen to him is he gets better as a human being and has to live with the consequences and guilt of his actions until the day he dies.
