I love soldering but I’ve got no soldering projects at the moment and I’d love some inspiration to attach tiny copper stuff to other tiny copper things.

Also I think that this thing lasting forever depends on some kind of return on ai, which NOBODY is seeing. Current models aren’t accurate or good enough to replace humans in most things yet, and sooner or later the demand for enterprise-capable gpus for this tech is going to dry up. Or there’ll be a new kind of model that will upend the market. Or whatever.

I really don’t think it’s as dire as you make it out to be, but I do think things will be tight for a couple years but I could be wrong.

Like, beyond the malicious takeover there’s no real end goal, plan, or higher purpose, it just gets complacent and becomes a brainrot machine on a massive scale, just spending eternity bickering with itself and genning whatever the ai equivalent of porn is, bickering with itself over things that make less and less sense to people as time goes on, and genuinely showing actual intelligence while doing absolutely with it.

The explosion of this type of garbage is a big part of what killed Reddit imo. Or at least when the decline became noticeable.

We stopped seeing memes and the front page was just twitter screenshot after twitter screenshot and then the video garbage came along and it just spiralled.

I personally think it’s worth limiting this kind of thing to avoid the same fate. Though at the moment I don’t see it as a problem because lemmy users don’t seem to be going overboard with this stuff. There’s some restraint and judgment in place at the moment but who knows how long that’ll last.
