Can’t help with an answer, but you could also try posting this over on !Tipofmytongue@lemmy.world, might get a bite.
Not sure if I’d say they hit hard, but for readability it’s hard to beat Rex Stout’s Nero Wolfe books. Some of the best murder mysteries I’ve ever read, so much fun.
The Hitchhiker’s Guide, you likely won’t be able to finish each of the 5 books in the trilogy in a day but it’s something you can read a hundred times and find a new witty joke somewhere
After which you can listen to the radio show, watch the TV show, play the text adventure and maybe watch the movie depending on how much more you can take :-)
My favourite example of this is in Grosse Point Blank, when the GNR cover of Live and Let Die is playing non-diagetically, right until the moment Martin walks into the store, and suddenly a cheesy muzak version of it is playing over the shop radio. It’s beautifully done :-)
Agreed, although, that money should come from proper taxation of the very richest.
Ha - fashion > fascism :-)
Thanks, that’s really interesting. I guess black laces were the only safe option!
Thank you for being less lazy than me! Still though, white laces are pretty common. I wouldn’t want to be mistaken for a white supremacist just because of that.
Could you expand on the laces thing? I’ve never heard of laces (white, yellow or anything else) signifying anything in this topic.
I’ve only ever heard one of those songs, but I like it (Bang and Blame)!
Yeah, same here. I don’t disbelieve those who love it, but I just couldn’t get into it because it felt so unintuitive.
Not stuck exactly, more slightly overwhelmed, by Skyrim - never played it before, but it was cheap on Steam recently and day one I played for about 5 or 6 hours… and I’ve never yet gone back because there’s already so much to do. I will go back eventually though.
This is what I was going to say. It’s so weird, I love it.
The Story of Star Wars
I’ve got that on a 12" record! You might be the only person I’ve ever encountered who had it too.
Sadly my copy is very scratched, probably because my brother and I played it so much as kids!
Ghostbusters for me too. Never gets old :-)
It’s not like Christmas or New Years which are reliably 12/25 and 1/1.
You say that, but then there’s Venezuela.
When a headline or thread starts with “Why…” you can often reply to it simply by repeating the question without the first word and emphasising the new first word, eg:
Is Lemmy not a place for thoughts and observations, rather than just links, questions, and memes?
I’m not sure that’s true as a starting point. So not point trying to answer “why” it might be the case.
No need, not enough people on Lemmy anyway. Plus men-only groups often degenerate into paranoid misogynistic nonsense (like going on about blue and red pills). But I’m pretty sure you knew that already. And even if not, don’t ask, set the terms for people to say no and then whine when they do.
