No one should be exposed to this!
Posts have been removed and user has been banned. Also submitted the Mintboard stuff to admins and myself/other mods have recommended for it to be added to the blacklist of banned sites.
I still have no idea what happened so let me be one of the first to say, great job!
Well, a couple hours ago someone posted child pornography. It may have been fake, I dunno. I wasn’t exactly interested in looking closer to find out. When I saw it I reported it to admins through mod channels and it was taken out pretty quick. But most admins are asleep at the moment, same with mods. So a second post was made and stuck up for way too long which is what everyone is complaining about. I didn’t really do anything other than bug people privately. Now that this is known to be happening people should be keeping a closer eye so it should be taken care of quickly.
I mod some other subs, and I assume that the likely answer is that there aren’t a lot of mods here. The mod list is small, it’s the night / weekend and more people are AFK, and since reports are rare with small community, people get into the habit of not checking mail every hour.
Moreover a lot of lemmy clients still have terrible and or no notification tools to alert mods about reports.
IMHO, Lemmy needs a lot of features, but mod tools and better notification system really need to top priority across all Lemmy clients.

As someone who up until recently was modding some of the biggest communities on LW, yeah. Agreed. One of the reasons I stepped back was because of how frustrating it is as a mod. Luckily I know that Ruben over at Boost for Lemmy is working on mod stuff at the moment.
Obviously I don’t want to expose child porn further but I’m completely out of the loop. What’s going on?
Pretty much what it says on the tin. Some dude posted full on CP. Its been up for a while now. My guess is the mods are, quite literally, asleep.
Could be, the .world servers are managed by an EU team. Community mods should be global alas.
There should at least be a “If 5 people report something, it’s hidden until a mod is awake.” type mechanism.
Thatd be so easy to abuse by bad actors, crippling the feed of the non/less-moderated hours.
It can be abused, but weighing the pros and cons it can be worth it depending on the community.
We had it on a subreddit and it worked well the vast majority of the time. I only remember one case with abuse, and when that happened the abusing user got banned shortly afterwards.
Have a “Report CSAM” button. Misuse of which gets your account banned.
Maybe have some sort of minimum account requirements as set by the sysadmin of the instance.
Unfortunately I dont see how it wouldnt be abused.
Me and my 5 alts on my way to report this comment /s /s
Why the fuck can you even have images in the AskReddit format lemmy community? Huge moderation failure to allow post bodies / image posts, thats for sure. I can’t actually verify this but I assume theyre posts and not comments in said posts???
An auto review system for reports / downvote threshold would xe good but once again begs the question of why not just simply not allow image posts.
Someone is posting CSAM to !asklemmy@lemmy.world
It still hasn’t been taken down.
Edit: I’ve reported the post and sent DMs to the mods and all of the LW admins. Hopefully someone takes this down soon.
Thanks for the warning. I’m going to bail for the day.

I never saw it, but all that can be done against monsters like that is remove the content and cooperate with law enforcement to find them.
I’m sure the mod team is doing their best. It’s like lone wolf terrorists. Hard to see it coming, but crack down hard when it happens.
If it eases anybody’s conscience, they appear to be fake, so you probably didn’t accidentally see any actual CSAM, but rather somebody’s fantasy captions on otherwise legal material.
