      When you go to someone’s house, do you shit on their floor if there isn’t a cross stitch hanging by the door that says “Please don’t shit on our floor.”

      We shouldn’t need rules, because everyone here is an adult and the expectation is they will conduct themselves as such.

      Beyond that it says right on the tin, “Star Trek memes and shitposts,” so if it’s not Star Trek related (and the bar for that is incredibly low) or it’s not a meme or shitpost, then there’s no reason for it to be here.

        And when this community first started getting traction, people asked for clarification and got told the same thing; there are no rules and that it didn’t even need to be a meme or shitpost.

        The removals for bad behavior are one thing; but most of the removals in the modlog aren’t for that.

          And now you know why I stopped posting to Risa. There is no consistency as to what gets removed. On top of that, the only active moderator seems to routinely abuse his position by removing stuff that has no reason to be removed. Combine that with the really hostile and toxic behavior from that mod I just outright abandoned this community. I’ve reported stuff and instead of asking for clarification he came in my messages really hot and hostile. “Reddit” type behavior is not something I’m a fan of.

          Why should I bother trying to help this grow and be a positive place when the dude running it seems to believe it’s his own personal fiefdom?

        Oh yes, fully kidding. On reddit that (shortened) quote was frequently employed by bigots complaining about mod “censorship” of their “opinions”.

        I’ll leave it to your imagination what exactly those opinions were.

      You will not. It is the reason I stopped posting to /c/Risa and set up my own community on lemmy.world. I went to talk to the admins and they didn’t give a shit either. Everyone is more than happy to allow the moderator of this community to run it however he sees fit. The problem is that his vision of “fit” is not much different than any basic reddit subreddit I’ve seen. Check his posting behavior. Dude actively insults people he’s talking to at every chance he gets, acts like he’s in total control of what Risa should be, and generally doesn’t seem like a nice person to be around. Combine that with the private messages I’ve gotten from him and the only conclusion I’ve been able to come to is that the lead mod of this community is abusing his position, does not believe in the basic tenents of both Lemmy and Star Trek, and will never change. The admins are also perfectly fine keeping this the status quo. The option that they floated when I brought it up was frankly offensive.

      Now you know why I sprinted from this instance and this community. Why should I help this community keep going when the people running it do not believe in that community?

        I have to say, I suspected this. Being honest. I said to myself, “What could run off Stamets,” and that’s exactly what I came up with. The benefit of being closer to 40 than 30 I guess.

        Now to join your community. Thank you genuinely for commenting here for me to see directly. I’m not good at creating content (every time I ever got a burst of creativity on reddit I was banned for posting too much so I just stopped making memes) but I comment like a sumbitch!

          Yeah and I didn’t want to be “petty” and start shit but honestly the behavior is getting actively worse and I’m sick of pretending like shitty behavior isn’t the precise reason why I left.

          Well feel free to post over there as much as you want and welcome to the Subspace Fold. Probably what I should have named the community in all honesty.
